Compost Junction, Origin Story
Compost Junction was born out of a simple problem: home composting was slow, messy, and unreliable. I wanted a better way to handle food waste—and realized Grand Junction needed a connection to the experts who can turn scraps into rich, healthy compost.
By keeping food waste out of the landfill, we cut down methane emissions and turn what could have been trash into a resource that strengthens our community’s soil. It’s a small change with a big impact.
Most importantly, Compost Junction is a team effort. Every bucket makes a difference. Together, we can reduce our carbon footprint and create world-class compost for Grand Junction.

Hi, my name’s Jamie and I like to compost!

My path to Compost Junction has been anything but straight —I’ve lived and worked on a farm in Hawaii, trained and practiced as a licensed massage therapist, and spent eight years as a software engineer. Each step taught me something different, but all of it led me here.
Compost Junction has been a chance to put those experiences into something tangible for Grand Junction. I’m motivated by the idea that we can manage food waste differently—more responsibly, and with real benefits for our soil and community. I’m grateful for everyone who’s taken part so far and helped shape this project into what it is today!
